When you’re tired

Day 62 of #100Daychallenge

When you’re tired and small, shrunken and sore,
I want to wrap you gently in blankets
To sing to you gently while you sleep
To watch your fitfull overtired attempts at rest
To pick you up and hold you close to my chest
You beat slowly, unsteady at first but over time,
over days and weeks, you grow bright and strong again
Some days you quicken with excitement,
others you rest in gentle rhythmic slowness.
And seeing you grow and feel safe and warm
I grow and expand in safety and warmth
Trusting in the goodness of life, of this.
